HTC VIVE recently launched two new Virtual Reality headsets with 5K resolution and 120 degree field-of-view. Along with these headsets, the company also launched VIVE Business, which is a suite of tools that enables businesses to incorporate VR in critical areas such as training, presentations and more.
VIVE Pro 2
Here’s an advanced version of the popular VIVE Pro headset, which has been redesigned for long hours of usage without eye or neck fatigue. Note that this is a PC VR device, which means you’ll need a Windows system which has at least an Intel i5 processor or AMD Ryzen 1500.
In terms or ergonomics, the headstrap, headphones and lens distance are adjustable. A unique feature with the VIVE Pro 2 is the IPD adjustment which can be manually changed while wearing the headset, using a dial. The interpupillary distance (IPD) refers to the distance between both the pupils, which makes the viewing more refined. The overall balanced design, with adjustable settings makes it comfortable even for those wearing glasses.
Other new features include:
- 120 degrees field of view
- 90/120 Hz refresh rate
- 5K resolution (2448 x 2448 pixels per eye)
- Removable, hi-res certified headphones
The VIVE Tracker 3 (for hands and legs) is coming soon. Learn more about it here.
VIVE Focus 3
Another 5K resolution headset with 120 degree field of view. The VIVE Focus 3 was designed for businesses who want to leverage VR for training, education, healthcare, meetings and other use cases. With an active cooling mechanism and an open back audio system, this headset allows employees to stay engaged for long hours, comfortably.
Ideal for showrooms, experience centres, event stalls and training workshops, the headset suits a wide range of face sizes and for those with glasses. The quick-release button and detachable face/rear cushions help with easy cleaning for the next customer/employee to wear.
The swappable headset’s battery allows up to 2 hours of continuous usage and 15 hours for the controllers . The ergonomically designed battery acts like a counter weight, to give an overall balanced feel while wearing this VR headset.
The dual 2.88″ LCD panels has a refresh rate of 90 Hz, and similar to the Pro 2, has IPD adjustment feature.
This business platform also supports Oculus and Valve Index devices. Here, avatars can be created to get a real-life feel of being present in your office meeting.
Access files from your desktop, chat privately and even give virtual handshakes. Collaborate also with non-VR users and attend video calls in Zoom or MS Teams.
